In daily data set files, following level 2 products are included: 1) mixing layer height from aerosol backscatter (zmlaa) based on STRAT-2D algorithm, 2) aerosol layer heights (zal) also based on STRAT-2D algorithm (Haeffelin et al., 2012; Morille et al., 2007). Additionally, uncertainty and bias for the variable zmlaa based on analysis in Schween et al. (AMT, 2014) are given.
Limitations: Observations only available if backscattering targets like aerosol particles and cloud droplets are present with sufficient quantity. It must be noted that the zmlaa is highly biased during full overcast. Therefore, it is recommend to use zmlaa only if cloudiness is less than 5/8 octas.
