Attenuated backscatter coefficient is calculated from raw signal by following principals of lidar equation. Quality mask qbeta was created by following Heese et al., Atmos. Meas. Tech., 3, 1763-1770, 2010. For optically thin ice cloud research it is recommended to use other data quality masking methods (e.g. van Tricht et al., Atmos. Meas. Tech., 7, 1153-1167, 2014). For more details see accompanying data description document.
Limitations: Measurements only available if backscattering targets like aerosol particles and cloud droplets are present with sufficient quantity. Attenuated backscatter coefficient is uncalibrated in version 02 files.
