Model: Modular Ocean Model v5 ocean/sea ice component of the Geophysical Fluid Dynamics Laboratory CM2.5 coupled model
Resolution: Horizontal 0.25°x0.25° Vertical 50 levels, (28km at the Equator down to <10km at polar latitudes)
Data assimilated: World Ocean Database of historical hydrographic profiles of T&S. In situ SST observations from the International Comprehensive Ocean-Atmosphere Data Set (ICOADS) version 5 release 2 SST data base. Remotely sensed SST data from L3 Pathfinder V5.2 AVHR Radiometer (1981-2002) and NOAA Advanced Clear Sky Processor for Ocean VIIRS and MODIS L2P (ACSPO) (since 2003).
Assimilation method: (see reference for information)
Forcing and relaxation used: The different versions use different data sets for forcing: SODA3.3.x (MERRA2 forcing),SODA3.4.x (ERA-Int forcing), SODA3.6.x (CORE2 forcing), SODA3.7.x (JRA-55 forcing), SODA3.11.1 (DFS5.2 forcing). Not yet available are SODA3.5.x (ERA20C forcing), SODA3.8.x (20CRv2 forcing), SODA3.9.x (OAflux forcing), SODA3.10.x (CFSRR forcing).
