This scanning routine was deployed for three beam (1 vertical, 1 eastward, 1 northward) Doppler swing observations. In daily data set files following level 1 products are included: (1) Doppler velocity: This is the motion of the scattering target carried by the atmospheric flow along line of sight (LOS) (2) backscatter coefficient: standard output provided by the manufacturer, uncalibrated (3) error estimation for Doppler velocity: theoretical uncertainty calculated using Cramer-Rao lower bound (CRLB) as described in Pearson et al. (J. Atmos. Ocean. Technol., 26, 240-250, 2009).
Limitations: Measurements only available if backscattering targets like aerosol particles and cloud droplets are present with sufficient quantity. Attenuated backscatter coefficient is uncalibrated. Due to various disturbances in conversion of level0a (ASCII) file to level0b (NetCDF) file in near real time, some data are missing on following days: 19.-25.9.13; 27.9.13; 2.-3.10.13; 5.-6.10.13; 13.10.13; 16.10.13; 23.-28.10.13; 21.11.13. These data are intended to provide to HD(CP)2 data base in due time.
Provenance: Data of JOYCE, processed by IMGK, University of Cologne
Comments: Original data together with quality flag and velocity error are provided.
