SAMD Product Standard
The goal of the web portal and the data archive is the provision of "easy-to use" data. Therefore the SAMD Product Standard has developed to ensure that data from the multitude of instrument types can be used in a uniform manner. All data are stored in NetCDF format, with the usage of CF-conventions (Climate Forecast), as possible, which are well known in the model community and an important condition for the easy appropriability for all users, independent on previous experience with measurement data. The "SAMD Data Product Standard" includes the conventions for file naming, for the unique naming of each data set, NetCDF conventions such as file headers and variable names and the standardized metadata (XML) for each data set. The document was developed for measurement data from HD(CP)² and is maintained and adapted so that it can also be used for future campaigns and projects.
With the SAMD Product Standard (see references) , we have developed the basis of an archive of standardized data sets, for the first time in Germany, and for this large multitude of instrument types. All data available via this portal are checked against the SAMD product standard version 1.2 (pdf) or since FESSTVaL version 2.1 (pdf, not barrier free).
