Printing
WIFI
To print via wifi it is necessary to establish a VPN connection beforehand. Tutorials and more information about VPN are available at the RRZ Webpage (only in German).
Windows
All printers are managed by a printer server and can be installed on any PC. The prerequisite is that the PC is in our network.
- Open Windows Explorer and enter in the address line:
"\\print.cen.uni-hamburg.de" (If asked for credentials, please type your u-number (AD\u123456) ) - A list of all existing printers will be displayed
- Locate the desired printer and double-click it. No further settings are necessary and the new printer can be used immediately.
Trouble shooting
If you have Windows 10 and get the error code 0x000006d1 while installating a printer, please follow these steps:
- right-click the start button
- start Windows PowerShell (Admin)
- paste and execute the command: reg add "HKLM\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows NT\Printers" /v ForceCSREMFDespooling /t reg_dword /d 00000000
- Ensure that the command reports: "The operation completed successfully." and reboot your PC
Linux
In our Linux installations, the printers are already preconfigured and can be used directly. When printing via the command line, only PostScript and ASCII files can be sent to the printer!
MacOS
- Go to System Preferences and click on Printers&Scanners
- Click on the '+' sign or add printer
- Rightclick at the top bar and customize the toolbar, add the "Advanced" option
- Go to the 'Advanced' tab and fill in as follows:
- Type: Windows printer via spoolss
- Device: Another Device
- URL: smb://print.cen.uni-hamburg.de/PRINTERNAME?encryption=no (e.g. d0001-c1)
- name and location: type in anything
- Use: Generic PostScript Printer
- Type: Windows printer via spoolss
- You need to authenticate with your u-account, to be able to print. In case of any problems please try the authentication with "AD\u-account"
name scheme
All our printers are named according to a logical name scheme, where the following can be identified:
Example printer: g1402-c1
- single letter as an abbreviation for the building (d:DKRZ, c:CliSAP, e:IHF Elbstraße, g:Geomatikum, z:ZMAW (Bundesstr. 53) ).
- 4 digits for the room number
- single letter for the printer type (c: color, m:monochrom).
- single digit for the printer number
