Facilities
Research ships, heavy equipment, the data center - the CEN and its member institutes offer a diverse range of facilities to support scientific research.
For example, the basement level of the Geomatikum building in the Bundesstraße houses the largest boundary layer wind tunnel in Europe. Thanks to the German Climate Computing Center (DKRZ) researchers at the CEN have access to special supercomputers. And a joint library keeps scientists at the neighboring Max Planck Institute and at the University supplied with reference works, academic journals and other publications.
The building is also home to the Control Station German Research Vessels. On behalf of the Federal Ministry of Education and Research and the German Research Foundation (DFG), it coordinates the journeys of the "Meteor", the "Merian" and the new "Sonne" for German scientific research as a whole.
