Corona pandemic: Implications for security policy

How does the Corona pandemic influence prospects for peace and security in Europe? Some trends are emerging concerning the general framework of traditional security policy with its diplomatic and military means. However, to which extent changes will occur is still open.
It became apparent that states were inadequately prepared for a broader spectrum of existential risks. In order to be better prepared in the future, one should challenge the status of traditional security policy with its high cost for military means.
The first political reactions to the pandemic were re-nationalization and a weakening of international institutions. In future, security policy must be understood as peace policy. New initiatives are required.
