Salinity of North Atlantic Surface Currents

This 6-months particle trajectories visualization depicts the salinity of the North Atlantic surface currents. The particles were generated at 20m depth with the MITgcm model (4km resolution) and their lifetime in the animation is 5 days. The powerful Gulf Stream, the formation of its rings and the two branches it separates into: the North Atlantic Current and the Azores Current are apparent in the visualization.
