More than 80 German and international researchers from the Priority Program (SPP) “Regional Sea Level Change and Society” gathered at the Center for Earth System Research and Sustainability (CEN) last week to discuss the current state of research on global and regional changes in the sea level.
In the course of the two-day workshop, the participants explored the effects of climate change on coasts and societies alike. In this project, the focus is on two representative regions: Germany’s North Sea and Baltic Sea, and Southeast Asia, which is home to both megacities and major river deltas. In addition to prominent climate experts from Indonesia, England and France, a journalist was also invited, and spoke with the researchers about the communication between the scientific community and the media.
The project has been sponsored by the German Research Foundation (DFG) since 2016, and is coordinated by the CEN.
