CEN Director re-elected as head of the World Climate Research Programme

Today, Prof. Detlef Stammer has been re-elected head of the World Climate Research Programme (WCRP) for the next two years. Since 2019, the oceanographer has been chairing the WCRP Joint Scientific Committee, an international board comprising 17 scientists.
The unambiguous decision was an 'overwhelming confirmation to lead the WCRP for another two years' - according to the feedback of the Committee. Clear tailwind for Stammer and Vice-Chair Helen Cleugh from the Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation (CSIRO) in Australia, who also was re-elected.
"Over the past two years, we have restructured the World Climate Research Programme and launched an updated research agenda. For example, we are focusing more strongly on regional climate research and the exchange between climate research and decision-makers," reports Detlef Stammer.
"I am very pleased about the expressed trust and the fact that we can now continue on the path we have chosen. Restructuring the WCRP research programme has received broad support from all stakeholders and will invigorate it and steer the programme into the future".
The WCRP is one of the leading initiatives in the coordination of international climate research. The WCRP receives funding from the World Meteorological Organization (WMO), the Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission of the UNESCO, and the International Science Council.
