Film meets marine research: cinematic insight into life on board
Fifteen scientists from the University of Hamburg and CEN were on board in September and October 2020 when the research vessel METEOR set off on expedition "M166" in the North Atlantic to investigate the connections between the Gulf Stream, the return flow of cold water from the polar regions and climate change off Iceland.
On board were researchers from the fields of marine research, geology and climate science, who worked together in the project "RACE- Synthesis - Regional Atlantic Circulation and Global Change" (2019-2020), funded by the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research. Filmmaker Vincent Urban joined this trip. The result: a 16-minute documentary that shows the research and its importance for our Earth´s future. The film captures the impressive atmosphere on the Atlantic and gives personal insights into the cramped life on the ship.
