New Professor in machine learning methods for solid Earth Geophysics

We are very pleased to welcome Prof. Dr. Conny Hammer as a new member of the institute of geophysics as of mid-May. Ms. Hammer holds a PhD from the University of Potsdam and joins us in Hamburg from the Swiss Seismological Service, which is based at ETH Zurich. In her research, Ms. Hammer uses machine learning methods to identify patterns and relationships in complex, natural geosystems. Ms. Hammer would like to use this method in the field of climate research, for example, to detect the connection between climate changes and quakes in glaciers or landslides in seismic data.
