Hamburg Ambassadors visit climate research

They are Hamburg´s face in the world: the HamburgAmbassadors, who represent the city´s interests on a voluntary basis in 24 countries. As part of their annual meeting in the Hanseatic city, the group visited the Center for Earth System Research and Sustainability (CEN) at Universität Hamburg and the Max Planck Institute for Meteorology (MPI-M) on Tuesday together with Katharina Fegebank, Hamburg´s Second Mayor and Senator for Science.

The focus was on the work of the Cluster of Excellence “Climate, Climate Change and Society” at Universität Hamburg and the Paris Agreement´s climate goals — but also on the Nobel Prize for the Hamburg scientist and long-time director of the Max Planck Institute for Meteorology, Prof. Klaus Hasselmann, and the reports of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), to which Hamburg scientists are leading contributors. Following the discussion, the guests visited the “Environmental Wind Tunnel Lab”, the university´s boundary layer wind tunnel, and the new high-performance computer at the neighboring German Climate Computing Center.
